Fear

Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger or pain. Extreme stage of fear is called phobia. Severity of fear varies according to mental stability.

There are different types of fear. For instance, fear of animal is zoo-phobia, fear of water is hydrophobia, fear of light is photo-phobia, and fear of closed place is claustrophobia.

There are mainly two treatment measures for fear which includes flooding and systematic desensitization. Flooding is the way which uses direct exposure to the object (if a person has fear of rat, fear is reduces by keeping them together in a room for several hours)closed contact will minimize fear gradually.
Systematic desensitization is the method to teach the individual how to cope or overcome the situation. It includes 3 steps .firstly, we have to identify stimulus and establish hierarchy of stimulus on the basis of severity of anxiety, ranging from less severe to more severe stimulus. Secondly, learn coping mechanism like relaxation, eg; meditation, anti anxiety medicines, breathing exercises, etc. Thirdly, reacting towards stimulus and overcome fear. For this, we have to connect the stimulus to coping method through counter conditioning. After relaxing the individual, present lower item as per the hierarchy and continue until last stimuli without inducing anxiety. By practicing this regularly, we can overcome fear successfully
